Breadboard: The breadboard is perfect for the enthusiastic amateur, robe de mariée pas cher, enabling you to make connections and extra circuits away from your micro controller.  It looks pretty funky too, you get them in a range of bright colors to make you feel right at home!
Micro Controller Board (obviously): No electronic components workshop is worth its salt without one.  I love the Arduino Uno personally, though there’s plenty of choice in this area.  The Uno comes with 14 digital 1/0 pins, robe de cocktail, of which six are capable of delivering PWM output.  It’s got a 16MHz crystal oscillator and a USB input.  And it also powers from AC to DC adapter or a battery pack.
Male to Male Jumper Wires: Ideal for connecting to the female pins on a breadboard, male to male jumper wires are a must have for any serious hobbyist.  I’ve always got a couple of packs of six lying around in case I need them in a hurry!
Flex Sensor: I love this little piece of kit! You get flex sensors in 2. 2 inch lengths, perfect for marrying to hand and finger movements.  The more bent the sensor gets, the more resistance it signifies.  The connector is ideal for use with a breadboard (see, told you the breadboard was a number one must have for your UK electronic components workshop, manteau fourrure!).
Softpot: Another favorite in my UK electronic components grab bag, robe de mariée, the softpot is used to measure positioning accurately (like with a CNC head), or to describe a variable input from your end user (as in a volume slider).
Photocells: Never get enough photocells.  Whatever you’re making, the photocell has its use in there somewhere.  Great for detecting if your end user has left a door or drawer open.  Also useful for detecting transitions between night and day – say for a glowing display on a clock.
Thermistors: Thermistors have a treasured place in my UK electronic components bag too – for similar reasons to the photocell.  The thermistor works with ambient temperature, which makes it ideal for building applications that need to alert the end user when a certain temperature is reached or lost.
Linear Trimpot: To the average person in the street the linear trimpot is known as a “knob”.  To us UK electronic components geeks, we prefer the proper name.  The linear trimmable potentiometer is breadboard friendly and ideal for adjusting contrast on your LCD screens, or changing volume levels.

Every electronic hobbyist has his or her own “Handbag” of favorite electronic components – stuff you always turn to when you want to create something new and spectacular!
So here’s my list of top favorites, ideal for every inventor -
