Hi folks,

Me and a mate have organised a membership to my local gym,cant wait to get started and burn off a few calories  :lol:  Not overweight, Just want to feel ?& look toned,fit.

Who else is a bit of a fitness freak?
And do you go by a strict course e.g. certain workouts?

Any tips!

I have been a fitness freak for YEARS!! Becomes an obsession! I could probably tell you anythin you need to know! Cheesy
First off, what kind of fitness are you looking for? What goals have you got? You want more tone, less body fat, bigger muscles, or all of it?! lol.
Remember, start off easy, you have to condition your body before you can start serious training, otherwise you're heading for injury! And injury means time off, and time off mean no progress, and no progress means you're paying a gym membership to sit at home! Sad
Most importantly, is DIET! You wouldn't put cheap, crap petrol in your car would you? You'd want high octane for better performance! Same with your body, if you eat rubbish food, you'll have rubbish performance, no energy and not be able to do much. Eat good and eat well. Drink plenty of water, if you dont already, take multivitamins, just helps top up what vitamins and minerals your body needs to recover and improve.

I've been weightlifting since I was at school. I tend to go through phases being at the gym all the time or just using my bench in the garage.
It is good to see you have a training partner as it is much safer and makes it much easier to keep motivated.
I would suggest getting a decent exercise book as it will help with getting the movements spot on straight away, once you learn bad habits they are hard to break.

i was a fitness freak lol started costing me loads tho with the diet and everything!
like halfloaf said it is so much better going with a mate as they push you alot harder than you could yourself!
as for workouts i did seperate muscles on seperate days!

i.e
Monday - shoulders and back
Tuesday- chest
Wednesday- legs
thursday-Arms
friday chest and abs

Thats pretty similar to the workout I used to do.

Monday - Chest
Tuesday - Back
Wednesday - Shoulders
Thursday - Legs
Friday - Arms

When doing this type of routine I would be in and out of the gym in under 30 mins. :lol: as overtraining will easily creep up on you.

Yeh, books are useful, I have a couple of issues of weightlifting mags, some useful stuff in them!
My training routine has just changed again, gone from endurance to strength now.

Tuesday - Back & Biceps + core
Thursday - Shoulders, Chest & Triceps + core
Saturday - Legs + core


Notice I have a day off inbetween workouts, just to give my body time to recover. It takes 3 days for a muscle to fully recover, so make sure you train unrelated muscle groups together, gives you a better workout so you still have energy in the other groups and not using supporting muscles which you will have to train in the same workout! :?
Once the weights get hevier I'm gonna change it to one muscle group a day, can work them harder then! Cheesy

Remember to change your routine every 3-4 months, just exchange excercises for muscle groups as your body will adapt to them and slow down progression.
