My car has now been dumped on Honda forcourt,

I accelerated from a set of traffic lights, was still in 1st gear, when it made a grindin noise then popped out of gear, slipped it bk into gear n put my foot on the accelerator and nothin but the rev of the engine.  i tried it in every gear, includin reverse but the car wasn't budgin! :x

So heres me stuck in the middle of a set of traffic lights!!  phones for recovery and told them 2 take it and dump it on the forcourt! but as it was new years eve n bein a sunda, Honda was shut, so I went up 2day and they are gonna put it on the ramps n give me a ring wit the verdict! (Good job for manufacturers garantee!!)  Cheesy

So i'm peeved off wit the car, went 2 look at an integra type r 2day, so hopefully it will soon be bye bye EP2 and Hello DC2!!!   Cheesy

Hey,

I abuse, Vtec, redline and race anything off traffic lights (usually losing badly!!!) and the gear box engine and everything else is absolutely fine.

Really sorry to hear you have that problem.  When I used to work in the car industry I knew a guy who used to build very sucessful racing custom boxes.  I asked if he could build me one...he replied 'why? Honda ones are the best'.

So hopefully that is a one off.  I have had my 14,000 mile old Civ since July 2005 done 33,000 miles= now 47,000 on clock and not once has it failed in any way!!

All the best

i've had input shaft bearing go on my gearbox, apparently that is a fairly common fault with our box, it just makes loads of noise and can pop out of gear til you replace it.  and i've also blown up cv joints due to general hammering whilst having incorrect (positive) camber after fitting type r dampers.  the positive camber was literally pulling the cv joints apart when approaching full lock, and any kind of gas just popped them out!

having said that, it was in my early days when i was much more naive about these cars and was still learning my trade. but nevertheless if you blow a driveshaft everything stops...!

cheers, sam

driveshaft breakages are normally cause by excessive wheel-spinning.

the car's an 03, and it's heavily modified, so i didn't think it was going to wash with the dealer, plus it was a year out nearly.

so i took the box out it my garage and sent it to tameside transmissions (there arent many box places left - this was my local!) and they charged 175.
absolute bastard job gettin the box out, they offered to do the whole job for around 300... may have been worth it!

in that i decided not to drop the subframe as i was working on axle stands, barely enough room to wipe your nose under there! it meant removing the rad hoses and engine mounts and winching the block us as high and as far to the nearside as it would go, and then the box would drop out through the bottom.

i don't know what they did to it, but i imagine they repaired what was wrong. they greased the driveshaft lip seals and re sealed around the gearbox casing pinch points, stuff like that, but didnt replace any more bearings or seals if they didnt need it...

cheers, sam.
