It looks like there is now a Performance Camshaft available for the EP2/D16V1.
I had a chat with Truehonda on the www.7thgencivic.com forum and he says the new cams for the D17 should fit.

4 cams available altogether.

Stage 1
Stage 2 N/A
Stage 2 Turbo
Stage 3

All $379 Each

Stage 2 and 3 require Valve Spring and Follower set which is $302.

This looks very promising for the D16V1 Stages 2 and 3 will definately need tuning with Stage 3 Idle being 1250 RPM.

I am thinking of geting this parts (cams, springs, maybe pistons (11:1) and rods).
Maybe just converting D16 to D17 with the cams stage 2.

But idle at 1000RPM isn`t what I had in mind, I still have to go to work with the car. The prices are also, uhuhu.

But I can`t find the EPC (electronic parts catalog) with a Honda FR-V 1.7, witch should have the same engine as the USDM Civic EX.

If the part numbers for D17 head and D16 head are the same then is should fit, becouse no one can confirm this!!

So this thing will take time, also becouse my car is still under warranty.

Have a chat with Truehonda he is a nice bloke. He seems to think the cam should fit the D16V1. Personally I wouldnt swap in the D17, if you are going to swap then the K20 (and Gearbox) from a Type-R is amuch better option.

I have heard thats the k series engine swop can be rather heavy on the wallet, that and the fact that its still new. Any ideas if the old b16a will fit or not from previous gen VTi's?

Definately the swap isnt going to be cheep. Selling up and buying a Type-R is probably less. A turbo kit would be less as well.

The thing is if I make a swap to k20 my the insurance money would rocket for about 300 GBP/year! . So I was thinking just to "mod" my car to round 140whp, and have the original engine as a back-up. Then if I get a bigger pay (in future) go to civic Type-R.
But I read that the stock ECU has a "problem" with piggy-back controllers (VAFC-II and E-manage), so that is a big problem if you can`t change the setting of the ECU! AEM EMS is round 1400$ and you need the stock ecu.

The ECU learning is supposedly only 03 on cars. If this is so then an ecu from an 02 or 01 EP2 and a piggyback is going to be much cheeper than a standalone.

140whp is not going to be easy with mods. A standard EP2 hits about 90 to 95 WHP.
Without Turbo or N2O you would have to rev really high to get 140WHP.

RPM -----> Torque --->BHP

3600 ----> 105.04 ---->72
4000 ----> 118.17 ---->90
4400 ----> 117.45 ---->98.4
4800 ----> 118.17 ---->108
5200 ----> 116.54 ---->115.39
5600 ----> 106.91 ---->114
6000 ----> 99.78 ------>114
6500 ----> 90.70 ------>110.52
6800-----> 83.04 ------>107.52

This data is from my Dyno notice how Torque drops off at 6000.
Just by keeping the torque going a bit longer we could see this

5200 ----> 116.54 ---->115.39
5600 ----> 115.02 -------->122.64
6000 ----> 115.04 ------>131.42
6500 ----> 110 ------>134.04
6800-----> 100.02 ------>130.8

And that is without increasing the rev limit. It wont be easy but it is probably within the sights of the new crower cams and Intake , Header and exhaust plus some kind of fuel adjustment.

I am looking at some part numbers for D16V1 and D17A2, it doesn't look like the part are equal. I am asking some people who know Hondas about this code, will give an answer when I get more.

d16 rods will survive 200whp then snap they are the weakest part of the engine. performance varients are $750 to buy.
im going nat asp (no turbo or supercharger) with my motor my reconing is that with a vafc, new header, new street cam, exhaust and filter working together, (street specs not race specs, realism is very important, a race cam will be crap with a selection of other mild road mods power not being achieved at the same time eventually makes the engine work against it's self!)with the parts above reasonable fun and clean power i believe are easily achieveable.
