My mentor is not just a man of super human characterand a rare gem but a man favoured by the gods, he isalso a man who I so admire for his achievements andnoble qualities. He was an enigma. In his rathereventful life Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola who wasborn on the 24th of August,1937 and died July 7th,1998, was to me a man of many parts. He was achartered accountant,
lunettes ray ban, International businessman,politician, philanthropist, sports enthusiast,populist, multimillionaire and of course, my mentor!
Rising from a very humble background, his achievementswas nothing but a study in hard work and perseverance.His was a classic rags to riches story of someone borninto abject poverty,
casque beats, but rose to become a stupendouslywealthy man. This was because life did not start easyfor him as his mother died simply because the familycould not afford to pay 55 kobo (55 cents) that thedoctor had demanded to treat her.
Despite the unfortunate predicaments, which befelltheir family, his quest to excel was unshaken. Tosurvive,
ray ban, he had to sell firewood to supplement thefamily income and to pay his school fees but that wasnot enough means of sustenance so he ventured intomusic. His band played only on weekends and was paidonly 1 naira and five kobo (1 dollar 5 cents).
At school, he had to memorize volumes of books heborrowed because he could not afford to buy them.Through a dint of hard work and single-mindeddevotion,

He was never tired to speaking of his poor backgroundbecause he had the privileged to taste both sides oflife; the rich side and the poor side, I quote ?Iknow the type of music that goes on in the stomach ofa hungry man,

People were saying that my mother was born ofill luck because her first husband died while thefirst child was expected, the second husband died toowhile the second child was in the womb. His father also had a problemas none of his previous 21 children had lived and sohe was ready to take a chance so that he could have ahier. ?That was the chance my father took except thatwhen I was born, I didn? die. Neither did he!?hesaid.
He was kindness personified as he had the milk ofhuman kindness and used his money to help many, mostof them unknown to him. In his bid to eradicatepoverty and suffering from the less privileged, heventured into politics, which was the proximate causeof his death. After wining the presidential electionsin June, 1993 the then military dictator annulled theelections which in turn led to political instabilityand incivility of the military rulers and others tocome. Abiola continued to fight for his mandate and ayear later, he was arrested and charged for treasonbecause he declared himself president. He was detainedfor 4 years where he was ill treated without propermedical attention and later died just when he wasabout to be released.
He died for political stability, fairness,

Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola? demise was a deathof a colossus, a death of a genius,
dolce gabbana, a death of my truehero. I owe nothing less than hard work andperseverance to this great man who had little butachieved many, whose life was indeed a blessing tomany, if not all.
