Hi every one
I’ve tried to understand what intake and exhaust combination i should be doing on my D16W7 (probably the same as any D16 from 2001) and after reading this forum I decided to make a short FAQ answer to what we need.
INTAKE:
1. Desperately need a Cold Air Intake system(no matter what, but you should not save money for that as any where else!)
2. Bigger Throttle body or ported hole. Intake manifold would fit from older 92-00 Civics, but its lot of hard working and not worth. Now it 56mm diameter, so 60 will be enough. I don’t know yet from which engine it fits, just look for something like that

Still dont know what this hole to the intake manifold on the left does, so if some one know explain its purpose. ( Seen here next to main intake hole -

EXHAUST:
1. Header is a must. Dont use Megan (
http://www.civic-ep2.co.uk/smf/index.php/topic,1544.msg14803.html) you can use DC Sports 4-1 form the D17A2 model engine it will fit on D16. Or from Jperformance.
2. Full exhaust pipe from header must be changed to 55mm, or 60mm, bur 55mm is enough.
3. If you go with de-cat system, so search for more info. If you go with cat system as I am, just buy a good sport cat, put on a high flow resonator and silent good flow muffler. They should be about 400cfm.
(where to buy and what brand exhaust and cat should we use?)
HEAD:
You can port head and polish it to make more compression, but I will not do that due to reliability issues.
ECU:
You will desperately need to remap your stock ECU, because it will not cope with fuel/air mixture and will run too rich, which will cause bhp to be even less that stock!
You will need to do something with the fuel mixture so as „d16v1 junky“ says:- „3 ways to do it, 1 keep it simple and buy a Fuel pressure Regulator, (try aem most are universal-fit) and a Uego air-fuel sensor. (this fits in the exhaust and tells you how efficiently you are burning fuel/making power via a dash mounted gauge). then you can simply adjust the fuel pressure by changing the settings on the regulator maybe a new fuel pump to, this would all cost less than Ł500. 2 would be an apexi vafc2 "neo" (neo is the colour screen version) this takes a LOT of fiddiling to make it fit. works brillliantly though, alows you to change vtec fuel settings-Ł750. then 3 would be the most expensive a standalone Aem unit, or hondata or Greddy-Ł1500+. this allows you to view (on a laptop) change any setting etc. im gona use the stage 1 as mines still got a standard cam and im not considering changing it-YET. hope this helps.-junky „
+ And if „you want a fuel pressure regulator. b&m do them as well. most are a universal fit. you cut the fuel line to the injectors insert the "t" piece (regulator) and then set up a return line back to the tank. it is quite a basic piece of kit really. this does mecanically what a standalone/apexi vafc2/powerchip will do electrically. dont wind up the pressure more than 5-10% though, doesnt need it. best would be up the pressure then lean out the mixture at the top end, all honda's run very rich as standard as they dont know what class of fuel the owner will use. well tested way to get more power. good luck!!!!“
Very good thread on what to chose for engine management

sam_sport53 said: „i got 140bhp and 127lb/ft with cold air induction kit, cat back, high flow cat and rolling road remap once all that was fitted on an accurate dyno; if you change the manifold aswell which is a big restriction you'd be looking at hitting up to 150bhp with all the mods i mentioned above. its just a case of finding someone good who can reflash the ECU on a rolling road. don't bolt everything on and expect it to be quicker - the ecu doesn't cope well at all and will retard the timing as the air/fuel ratio will be totally wrong. you will most likely lose power - i did!“
Good examples how to meke it up to 170bhp NA engine

Finally, to make it clear:
1. What Throttle should we use?
2. Where to buy and what exhaust system?
