Can anybody help me out here?

I was driving to work earlier and i heard like a creaking noise coming from the front of my car, it seemed as though everytime i turned the steering wheel it creaked. So it would go away if i sped up but come back if i slowed down.

So i stopped at the lights and i could move the steering wheel freely? left to right, I dont think i have ever been able to move the steering wheel freely when stopped before  :?  Im not sure if my steering joint has snapped or what, any ideas?

Could be a problem with the power steering

If its the powersteering then can the steering wheel feel really loose and flimsy? I dread to think how much it would cost to fix.

i dunno to be honest mate, i've heard of something similar happening before where iirc he had no power steering fluid or something but i cant remember if it caused his steering to go really light like yours or if his steering went heavier.

always best to take it to the professionals tho.

I got home this morning and when parked with engine running i could move the steering 360 degrees without coming to the lock. Tried again this afternoon and i can get to full lock now and my car seems fine. I have been told that a preasure release value could have caused this? Dunno. Mine is late 2001.
