The are 2 coolant hoses running to and from the side of the Idle Air Control Valve on the throttle body. I am thinking of removing them, bypassing the throttle body and joining the two ends of the hoses together.
This should help reduce the air temperature going into the manifold and give a bit of an increase in power.

Has anyone else done this mod? I am just wondering if it would mess up the idle speed? Will the Idle Air Control Valve sense that the engine is not hot, or does the ECM use the temperature sensor in the thermostat housing to determine that the engine has warmed up?

Im guessing the power gains would be tiny if any and the chances are the car won't run correctly. Remember Honda spend millions developing cars so im guessing they are there for a good reason.

by-passing the t/b wil not affect your cars running in any way.  will not affect idle.  will not throw up fault code.
it is a free mod that you can do.
gains, minimal to none.  but every little helps.  similar to adding a thermal intake gasket, stops heat transfer to unwanted places.
honda added a tb heater so that during the winter/cold weather, the throttle body wouldnt seize shut/ help unsieze a throttle body which has contracted in size.
in our country/climate, we wont experience siezed t/b's, and most enthusiats let their car warm up before driving anyway.

Cheers for your comment import_trung... I picked up the fittings at lunchtime (cost just under £5) and linked out the throttle body from the coolant system. I have only run the car for a few minutes, but have not had any ill effects from doing the mod.
Like you said, there will only be minimal (if any) gains, but i'm on a mission to try and reduce my under bonnet & intake temperatures.
I have done this mod to carburettor based cars before without any problems but was just a little unsure this time as the coolant lines pass through the Idle Air Control Valve before entering the throttle body.

I'll keep you posted if it doesn't work.
Cheers!
Steve.

u can bypass the iacv too, it, again, is only there to help warm up the component quicker after a cold spell.

*Just a little update*

As i'm still waiting for my Spoon Low Temp Thermostat to come in from the supplier in Japan, i have just done a couple of little mods to increase air flow and help reduce heatsink, under-bonnet and intake temperatures.

1: Removed sound proofing mat and edging strip from underside of bonnet.
2: Removed sealing strip (located under windscreen wipers) at the rear of the bonnet.
3: Applied insulation to coolant pipe directly next to my K&N Typhoon air filter (to limit hot air being drawn in to the intake).
4: Bypassed the coolant lines to and from the Throttle Body (located in the side of the IAC valve).

I'm not sure what power gains it has produced (if any, lol) but the car feels like it pulls a little harder, so i must have done something right!

I'm also going to see if i can pick up a set of Iridium spark plugs and get them fitted (making sure i index them).
