YEAH dont boot the gearbox when you have problems with bearings etc...had mine done about 4 months ago. it seems to be common or just the way drive.

I would say that’s a bad idea, cheap bearings will only cause the problem to occur again unless I’ve misunderstood what you’re talking about. The main issue is labour - it’s a long boring job....the bearing set only costs roughly £130. each bearing was about £18 - needed about 5 of them, plus the VAT.

either way it should resolve the problem but just for that peace of mind I would go with OEM originals...

hi,
when i had my ep1 i had a gear box problem i remember was driving back on the M1 at 3am in the morning when bang my car kept going to neutral everytime i put it back on 5th gear it would make this noise and go to neautral only if i was going more than like 50 so slowed down to like 45-50 so wouldnt have to change gears luckly it was empty the motorway being in eary morining. had to drive a good 15 miles doing slow speeds.that afternoon took it to a gearbox place they said yeah its your gearbox we had another car few weeks ago.
what he told me was that honda for the ep's have been using german bearings which cant cope with the heat and hondas rev much more so they cant cope the heat and wear much quicker he said honda use the german bearings coz its cheaper for them.dont know if its true but thats what the guy said payed £500 to get my gear box fixed.

this seems to be the right thread to post in...  Cheesy
i think im having the same problems all you lot have had with your bearings.. i need my car everyday to get to work and that, and it would be extremely inconvienient if my car dies Sad but i wa wondering, if it is my bearings, how will it break  Huh? will it suddenly just go on me or does it get extremely loud/worse?
car should be going in the garage sometime next week to have it sorted and looked at but i don't want it to die on me until then lol! any advice  Cheesy?

according to my mechanic friend it doesn't do any harm driving while the problem is there it will just get louder he said its just a matter of how loud you are willing to let it get before you get it fixed mine has been doin it for a while now and its goin in on wed

so advice.....
don't worry , go easy on it , i know its difficult but you gotta try lol and get it fixed sooner rather than later more for peace of mind than anything else mine has been doin it since January  Sad
