How to wire up aftermarket speakers in front door

Hi
I know how to get the door panels off. But how do you wire up the speakers?
Do the standard speakers have pos and neg terminals or do they have one plug going into them (like my old pug 206).
Do I have to strip the ends of the wires and attach new terminals to the wires (like my pug)??
Is it necessary to change the speaker wire for the uprated speakers?
Step by step help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
