Survey Sheds Light on Lighting Knowledge of Americans For the last four years, SYLVANIA has been conducting an annual survey to determine the awareness and public attitudes toward the eradication of incandescent light bulbs. Dubbed the ‘Socket Survey,’ the results this year show that by and large, Americans are beginning to take action and understand the need for more energy efficient lighting, such as LED. The survey was conducted via phone with 300 random adults from across the country. Some of the most notable findings are below: Overall Results This is the first year (in the past four) that public awareness of the phase-out has increased Despite that increase, only 1 in 3 Americans is still aware that 100 watt bulbs will begin being phased-out beginning January 1, 2012* While the majority are excited about switching to new technologies due to the phase-out, one third are still concerned about not being able to use their favorite bulbs. It helps to know where people are in their knowledge base and what we as a distributor need to do to increase lighting education. In fact, led light bulbs for home, we started the American Lighting Partner Program to do just that this year. The high-touch program is designed to train and educate distributors about American Lighting products, including its latest LED lighting products. While we still have a long way to go before every home is using only energy-efficient lighting, this survey shows Americans are gaining the proper knowledge base and are heading in the right direction.
